Aftercare

How your piercing heals is your responsibility!

What You Should Use:
-Saline Solution is the key to quick healing. It is a safe way to remove any dirt, debris, or bacteria without any pain or sting. Pressurized or Aerosol types are recommended because they will be sterile for each use. We recommend Wound Wash from Neilmed.
-We recommend spraying saline on a Q-tip and gently wipe away any fluid, dried fluid, or debris from the area 3 times a day for at least 2 months. Be sure to dry the area with a dry Q-tip after. Do not leave your piercing wet. If your piercing is still draining fluid after this time period, continue cleaning. Piercings can take up to a year to fully heal.
-We advise rinsing your piercing daily in the shower to ensure soap or shampoo is not trapped in the area. Avoid pools, hot tubs, and the ocean for a minimum of 2 weeks. Rinse your piercing with freshwater after submerging in any pool or ocean water. Be sure to dry the area with dry Q-tips after rinsing.
-For any oral piercing, you should rinse with an alcohol-free mouthwash up to 4 times daily. We recommend Biotene as it is alcohol-free and antimicrobial. Be sure to rinse after you eat, drink, or smoke.

Chemicals of any kind will not help you heal faster.
Do NOT Use:
Homemade Salt Solutions, Rubbing Alcohol, Hydrogen Peroxide, Bactine, Soaps, Ear Care Solutions, Tea Tree Oil, or Neosporin. These products can be too harsh for piercings and can cause drying, irritation, redness, soreness, swelling, and can prolong the healing process. We do not need to disinfect the inside of our skin, only gently remove fluid draining from the piercing. If it will burn, sting, or irritate your eyes, it will do the same to your piercing.

Do Not Touch Your Piercing
-Handling your piercing is the leading cause of physical or bacterial irritation. Do not touch or move your piercing while it is dry or crusty. This can scratch the inside of the piercing. Avoid make-up, moisturizers, or any other products in the piercing area.
-Occasionally the body will swell more than anticipated. In the event of excessive swelling, contact us as soon as possible. This is not a major issue if resolved quickly. The jewelry may just need to be lengthened.
